WHAT IS THERAPEUTIC IMAGERY?
Imagery focuses on the natural language of the subconscious mind – images. The brain learns through images, or pictures. In fact, it is impossible to have hypnosis without imagery! Through the imagery process, those images are understood and communicated to create lasting, positive changes in the client’s life.
The imagery process acknowledges the client’s desire for self-direction. Each client has his or her own personal symbols based on life experience, and when tapped into during the state of hypnosis, the client’s depth of involvement in the imagery process is maximized.
Visualization refers to the ability to “see” something in the mind’s eye. While this is very effective in the hypnotic process, imagery goes beyond basic visualization. It involves all of the senses, and clients are encouraged to notice sounds, smells, tastes, touch, internal feelings and sensations.
The subconscious mind does not distinguish between reality and fantasy, fact and fiction. Therefore, imagery is an effective way to change what we call your “life script” or “knowns.” This allows your subconscious mind to easily and effortlessly accept positive suggestions for change while in the hypnotic state. |
